Authentic Hungarian folklore dinner at Borkatakomba Restaurant (+35 EUR/person)

  • The Borkatakomba (Wine Catacomb) Restaurant was etablished in a former wine cellar extending to several branches of the Budafok cellar system, it is the restaurant with the richest traditions. Borkatacomba is more than a restaurant: on one hand a restaurant, on the other hand a theatre.

We recommend authentic folk dance or entertaining folk programs between the serving of the courses. The show offers a glimpse into the rich and regionally diverse traditions of Hungarian folk dance and folklore costumes.

Our mission is to introduce the masterpieces of Hungarian culinary art to foreign visitors. The courses are prepared by our Olympic medalist master chef József Révész and his team.

During the selected program, guests are entertained by our first violinist, József Balázs and his four-member gypsy band. The repertoire of the artists who regularly perform with the Hungarian State Folk Ensemble extend from traditional Hungarian folk songs, through chansons and operas, to classical music.

Lunch at the famous Great Market Hall (our package includes table reservation, you can pay your meal on the spot)

  • The Great Market Hall in Budapest was built in 1897, and is the most beautiful and largest of all Budapest market halls. The market hall is not only ‘Great’ in its size, but is also great in other aspects. Most importantly the market is also central, no wonder it is also called the Central Market Hall, for both of its location (5 min walk from the city centre), and the volume of trade taking place here on a daily basis. You can get all sorts of goods on the 3 floors of the Great Market Hall of Budapest: fruits, vegetables, dairy products, fantastic salamis, pickles, fresh fish, Hungarian paprika, Tokaj wines, various souvenirs, bags, clothes, pans and pots, and even home style meals, or Hungarian snacks like Langos at the upper floor food stands and eateries.

In November 1944, the area between Király utca, Kertész utca, Dohány utca and Károly körút was delineated as the Jewish Ghetto, which segregated tens of thousands of Jews, many then sent to concentration camps. Brave actions on the part of diplomats Raoul Wallenberg, Giorgio Perlasca and Swedish embassy employee Károly Szabó helped save the lives of several thousand who remained, up until the Liberation of Budapest in January 1945.

Guided tour at the world-famous Herend Porcelain Manufactory

  • Since the year 1999 this has been the home of the Minimanufactory, where the visitors can get an insight into the secrets of porcelain-making. If you would like to become a porcelain maker, even if just for a little time, take the raw porcelain paste or the painting brush into your hands, and the workshops will give your imagination free flight.

  • The Victoria Brand Shop is located in the side-wing opposite the Minimanufactory. The Porcelain Museum offers a permanent exhibition and temporary shows, renewed in every season, to highlight the history of the Manufactory. Coming back from the trip to porcelain world, visitors can take pleasure in the catering facilities offered by the Apicius Restaurant and Café.

Lunch at Apicius Restaurant, Herend Porcelain Manufactory / Fogas Csárda, Tihany, Lake Balaton / Echo Restaurant, Tihany, Lake Balaton (our package includes table reservation, you can pay your meal on the spot)

  • APICIUS RESTAURANT
  • The restaurant is named after the celebrated Roman gourmet Apicius. It is a real culinary experience to eat dishes worthy of him in the elegant grand hall or the more intimate gallery. It is a comfortable place for 80 persons at maximum capacity. Marcus Gavius Apicius was a notorious Roman gourmet and lover of luxury who lived in the 1st century AD. He is sometimes said to be the author of the first Roman cookbook, which was actually compiled about 300 years later… He was the subject of On the Luxury of Apicius, a famous work, now lost. Evidence for the life of M. Gavius Apicius derives partly from contemporary or almost-contemporary sources but is partly filtered through the work by the Greek Apion, whose purpose was presumably to explain the names and origins of luxury foods, especially those anecdotally linked to Apicius. Wine tasting experience with dinner at Szent Donát Winery: tasting 5 different wines; 3 course dinner menu without drinks (+ 53 EUR/person)

  • Szent Donat Winery bears the name of St. Donat, the patron saint who protects the grapes of Csopak from summer storms. The early Christian saint who lived during the period of Roman Pannonia is also a historical link connecting together the local wine culture’s Roman beginnings, the 1000-year ecclesiastical past of the grapes of Csopak, and the climate challenges of modern times. It is very important to the winery that the appropriate gastronomical context is set for the wines produced on our terroir. The Wine Mansion with its bistro and wine garden are open all year round for visitors. Their main cornerstones are freshness and regionality. Chef Zoltán Endrédi and his team create the menu based on ingredients found at the Balaton and Bakony.
